Setup guide
You only do this once. Grab a coffee, it takes a few minutes.
Add the bot
Pick your server and keep all the permissions ticked. It needs these:
- View Channels
- Send Messages
- Embed Links
- Manage Roles
- Ban Members
Ban Members is only there so the bot can read your ban list. Discord has no separate view bans permission. AltClamp never bans or kicks anyone.
Sort out your roles
Create a verified role, and an unverified role if you want one. Then open Server Settings, Roles, and drag the AltClamp role above both. Discord does not let a bot hand out a role that sits higher than its own, and this is the cause of most problems.
Lock your main channels to the verified role so newcomers only see the verification channel.
Make a private logs channel
Alerts and possible account links get posted here. Keep it staff only. It never contains IP addresses, but it does name accounts.
Run /setup
Pick the verification channel, verified role and private logs channel.
Add the unverified role if you made one. Choose Allow, Review or Block
for Strong and Certain matches. Review is the default.
Change it later in /settings.
Post the panel
Run /verification-message. A Verify button appears in your verification channel and stays there.
Test it and tell your members
Press Verify with a spare account and follow the link. Check that the roles change and that the logs channel gets a message. Then tell your members what verification does. That part is up to you, and our privacy notice is ready to link in your rules.
When something goes wrong
- The bot will not give out the role
- Move the AltClamp role above the verified and unverified roles, and check that it has Manage Roles.
- Strong matches are held for review
-
That server is set to Review. Choose Allow or Block in
/settingsto change how Strong and Certain matches are handled. - A strong link cannot be checked against the ban list
- Give AltClamp Ban Members so it can check the server's bans. It does not ban or kick anyone.
- There is no Verify button
- Run
/verification-messageagain. Check the bot can view and send messages in the verification channel. - A member never got the DM
- Their messages from server members are probably off. They can press the server's Verify button or run
/verifyinstead. - A real person keeps getting blocked
- They may be on a VPN or a shared network. Ask them to turn it off, or approve them with
/manual-verify. - You want to wipe someone's access
- Run
/checkupon them and they will have to verify again.
